The new chemistry building offers the possibility of completing the extremely heterogeneous block of Graz Technical University in a very compact way so as to form an urban entity. Sufficient space is created for a generously sized urban park in front of the building. This provides an appropriate urban entrance area for the University Campus as a whole. On one side it completes the late 19th century fragments on Münzgrabenstrasse, and on the other side it closes the open "U" of the University while yet extending a feeler to the new square so as to mediate between building and outdoor space.
