Expert's process 2nd prize Base data: A new type is created, tailor made for this location – "the hovering band", an urban link between block perimeter development and open spaces. It allows open space to flow below it and continues the wall of the block perimeter. Whether a student residence, offices, subsidised housing or privately financed housing everything is incorporated in a large, elegant volume. The long block is separated into functions as appears reasonable. The building does not lay down any particular functional areas. Is the student residence somewhat smaller, the subsidised housing larger by the same amount, or do the boundaries between a potential office building shift? All of these options are possible in developing this project further. The opening to Sensengasse will be protected by the large number of existing mature trees and a number of newly planted trees.
